Racing Videos

I love sailing, in all it’s dimensions, racing or cruising, with crew or by myself. I also like watching sailors race. As I recovered from knee surgery over the past year, I gradually developed a technique for taking and editing video of the starts of races on the Oakland-Alameda Estuary, hosted by the Oakland Yacht Club (OYC), and the Encinal Yacht Club (EYC). I live in the Panomar Building, literally between the two yacht clubs, and I go up to the Roof Deck to take video clips on my Samsung S-23 cellphone. I then import these clips into my computer, edit them together in about 40 minutes, and then go display them on a big TV for the racers, who gather for food and drink during the Award Ceremony. I have a YouTube page for these videos.

Here are some links to my YouTube channel, with all of my recent racing videos. These videos are focused on the one or two minutes prior to and including the starts of the seven fleets. Starting well does not determine how a boat finishes, but it helps.

This next link will take you to my most popular video, of an OYC race from the Sweet16 series in 2024, where two boats ran into each other.

There are many more racing videos from the OYC/Sweet16 series and the EYC/Twilight series this year, and last.
